Safarali bey Valibeyov

Safarali bey Valibeyov is an outstanding Azerbaijani teacher.

He was born in 1861 in the city of Shusha. Safarali bey Valibeyov graduated from the Gori Seminary. He is a co-author (together with A. O. Chernyaevsky) of the II part of “Veten Dili” (“Native Speech”). He is the first professionally trained pedagogical staff in Azerbaijan. The second (main) part of “Vetan Dili”, compiled by him in collaboration with Chernyaevsky, was the main textbook of Azerbaijani children for about 40 Years. The study of the pedagogical activity of Safarali bey Velibekov is one of the urgent problems in the history of pedagogy of Azerbaijan.

In 1895 Safarali bey Velibekov was awarded the “Order of St. Anna” of the third degree for his merits in pedagogy.

He died on August 31, 1902 in Shusha.
